The Alfreton & District Heritage Trust has received a grant of more than £9,000 from the National Lottery Community Fund.

The trust, which manages the Alfreton Heritage Centre on Rodgers Lane, has been awarded a total grant of £9,960.

The funding has been awarded to the trust to support its work and improve contacts within the local community.

John Rayson, from Alfreton & District Heritage Trust, said: “We’re hoping to bring together all generations – young and old – through our history via talks, crafting and memories sessions, along with local school involvement.”

Alfreton Heritage Centre is located in an old Cemetery Chapel, built by Alfreton Burial Board in 1891.

It opened as a heritage centre on July 3, 1993, and is home to an extensive collection of local artefacts, documents and pictures.

Alfreton Heritage will celebrate its 30th anniversary this July.

The trust will celebrate the occasion by extending its opening hours on Sunday, July 2. It will be open 10am until 4pm.

Alfreton Heritage Centre opens every Sunday between 2pm and 4pm. It also opens most Wednesdays between 10am and 1.30pm.
