The Baking Industry Awards 2022, in association with the British Baker magazine, have shortlisted Alfreton based company Rootles in the category of ‘New Product of the Year Award.
Rootles, an Alfreton based company ran by Helen Yates – owner of one of the country’s oldest family-run bakeries The Luke Evans Bakery, launched an innovative healthy snack of chocolate-covered vegetable-based biscuits. The product was sold nationally in ASDA and has become a popular snack for families and young adults.
Available in three varieties: milk chocolate, dark chocolate with carrot (vegan), and white chocolate with beetroot – 3/4 of the ingredients in the chocolate-covered Rootles come from root vegetables. The Good Food Fund and Mission Ventures support the products, deeming Rootles a healthy snack that could reduce childhood obesity.
The Baking Industry Awards 2022 will be held on Thursday, October 20, at the Royal Lancaster, London.
