Mandy Oldknow, an Alfreton based Travel Counsellor, has shared some important information for anyone planning on going on holiday this summer ahead of the UK passport office strikes.
Attention! If your passport is close to expiration, it’s important to apply for a renewal as soon as possible. Spread the word to your friends too!
It has been confirmed that Members of the Public and Commercial Services (PCS) Union working across England, Scotland & Wales will take part in strike action from 3rd April 2023 to 5th May 2023, with the same in Northern Ireland between 7th April 2023 and 5th May 2023.
The PCS Union represents workers in the UK’s passport processing offices and the five-week strike action will see more than 1,000 workers across all the offices strike, causing disruption to UK passport applications and renewals over the busy Easter period.
This could cause significant delays in the processing and delivery of new passports, especially as the summer holiday season approaches.
If you’re planning to travel this summer and need a new passport, don’t wait until it’s too late. Even if your renewal is delayed due to the strike, it’s unlikely to be considered a valid reason for free amendment or cancellation of your travel plans by insurance providers. Stay informed and act now to avoid any potential travel disruptions.
