Alfreton & District u3a will celebrate the movement’s 40th anniversary with an event in Severn Square this weekend.
Founded in 1982, u3a brings together people who are retired or semi-retired to make new friends and to enjoy a range of different activities.
Here, the Alfreton & District u3a, which is approaching its 10th anniversary, offers 24 different interest groups, including ukulele, photography and real ale.
The group also hosts a monthly meeting in the Church Hall, next to Christ the King Church on Nottingham Road.
There is usually a speaker at the meeting, which takes place on the second Thursday of every month at 2pm, and members can also get together for a chat and a cup of tea.
It costs £20 a year to join the Alfreton & District group. Membership grants access to the interest groups and to the monthly meeting.
You can find out more about what the group has to offer, by popping down to its event in Severn Square between 10am and 3pm on Saturday (September 24).
Members of the ukulele group will play several times throughout the day and members from other interest groups will also be on hand to talk about what they offer.
