Alfreton’s WHSmith will close early next year, the company has confirmed.
The shop, located on Institute Lane, will close at the beginning of January.
A WHSmith spokesperson said: “We are sorry to confirm that our WHSmith store in Alfreton will be closing at the beginning of January 2024.
“We are very disappointed to be losing our presence in the town, however, unfortunately, we are unable to continue to trade viably from this location.
“We would like to thank all our customers for their support and for shopping with us.
“We are also extremely grateful for the commitment of our store colleagues who we will support with this transition and redeploy to nearby stores, where possible.”
After the store closes, the nearest WHSmith shop to Alfreton will be the one located in the Four Seasons Shopping Centre in Mansfield.
The lease of the store is already being advertised on Rightmove. The rent of the shop is £2,500 per month.
News of the closure comes just over a week after the town’s Wilko store, also located on Institute Lane, closed.
The former Wilko store is one of 71 to have been acquired by Pepco Group and will reopen as a Poundland.
