Alfreton Youngser’s Umbrella Provision (AYUP) is launching free workshops for young people in the town.

The CIC has been set up to provide a safe and secure environment for young people to meet, build positive relationships and take part in a range of different activities.

The first workshop will take place tonight (Friday, July 21) at Alfreton Leisure Centre between 5pm and 7pm, and is suitable to 11 to 17 year olds.

The sessions, run by Old Farm Bus, while then take place weekly with activities including film making, DJ sets, graffiti art and more.

The launch of  AYUP has largely been made possible by James Simpson, who has raised an incredible amount of money to support youth service provision in Alfreton.

Last year, he raised £13,5000 by completing The Deca. Over a course of 10 days, he swam 24 miles, cycled for 1,120 miles and ran for 262 miles.

More recently, James, who works at Woodbridge Primary School, completed a ‘Quin in a Gym’ challenge at Liverpool John Moore University.

Over the course of five days – between July 14 and 18 – he completed five ironman distance triathlons.

The latest challenge has raised more than £2,600 to support youth services in Alfreton. You can see James’ Go Fund Me page here.

You can reserve a place for AYUP’s first workshop here.
