Air cadets in Derbyshire have been helping to collect food for those in need this festive season.
Members of the Alfreton & Ripley Air Cadets attended Tesco in Alfreton at the weekend to carry out the collections.
A spokesman for the cadet unit said on Saturday (December 16): “We’ve been blown away with the generosity of shoppers at Tesco Alfreton.
“The squadron has collected circa 90 crates of donated food from shoppers for the South Normanton Foodbank between 9am and 3pm today.
“That’s well over a tonne of essential food items that will go directly to help those most in need over the festive period.”
The spokesman continued: “Tesco Store Director, Freddie took the opportunity to talk to the cadets whilst they were hard at work; recognising the impact the cadets were achieving through their hard work and thanking them for their community spirit.”
Flt Lt Pimborough, Officer Commanding 1401 Squadron added: “A great effort in what is the final public engagement by the squadron for 2023.
“There was a true Christmas spirit about the occasion and we hope that everyone has a Merry Christmas.”
