A community youth service provision in Derbyshire has received a cash boost thanks to a town council.
Alfreton Town Council has donated more than £700 to AYUP (Alfreton Youngsters Umbrella Provision) which offers lots of different weekly activities for the youth in the town.
A spokesman for the town council said this week: “At a recent meeting, the town council was pleased to make a grant award of £702 to Alfreton Youngsters Umbrella Provision (AYUP).
“The grant will be used to help fund 13 weeks hire of premises for youth activities available to local children free of charge.
“AYUP is successfully providing free activities to the young people of Alfreton.
“Those attending can take part in a range of activities including drumming, rapping, arts, crafts, songwriting, self-defence, kick boxing, games, football, basketball, and dungeons & dragons.”
Councillor Steve Marshall-Clarke added: “We are pleased to support this initiative.
“AYUP are filling a much-needed gap in the services available within the town and has been highly received by parents and children, they are funded entirely by charitable donations and the time and efforts of volunteers.”
