Alfreton Town Council was “saddened and dismayed” to find its ‘I am Proud’ phone box sleeve had been damaged last week.
The sleeve had been covering the phone box on the High Street, outside Alfreton House, when it was damaged at 11pm on Wednesday, March 1.
CCTV of the incident has been handed over the police.
The town council has been using the phone box to share messages and information, while adding some colour to the High Street.
Early last month, the phone box was adorned in a Valentine’s Day themed cover. Further covers for Spring and the King’s Coronation are planned for later in the year.
Councillor David Taylor, lead member for regeneration at Alfreton Town Council, said: “We do not tolerate this kind of behaviour and work hard to include all community groups and individuals in our events and messages.
“We are working alongside businesses, communities and users of Alfreton to make it a nice place to visit and live in. It is sad that an individual felt i necessary to damage this display.”
Anyone with any information about the damage is urged to contact Derbyshire Constabulary on 101.
