North East Derbyshire District Council will waive road closure fees for residents who wish to celebrate the King’s Coronation in May – and it will make grants available to support community celebrations.

The council usually charges £200 to process temporary road closures but the fee will be waived to support communities coming together to celebrate the King’s Coronation over the Bank Holiday weekend.

The council is also inviting community groups to apply for grants to support celebrations and has waived the criteria stating that they can only apply once in a 12 month period for this event.

Councillor Alex Dale, leader of North East Derbyshire District Council, said: “The King’s Coronation will be a hugely important occasion to remember, for its historical importance and for the opportunity to bring communities together.

“We want to support our community to mark this very special occasion with an extended grant scheme that will boost this celebratory event and have a lasting legacy for years to come.”

The deadline for applications for grants is 9am on Monday, March 13.

You can apply for a grant and a road closure via the council’s website.

The Coronation of King Charles lll will take place at Westminster Abbey on Saturday, May 6. There will be a special Bank Holiday to mark the occasion on Monday, May 8.

Update – North East Derbyshire District Council has now extended the deadline for applications for grants until 9am on Monday, March 20.
