Neighbourhood police teams have been out and about in the Alfreton area offering crime prevention advice to festive shoppers.
A spokesman for Alfreton Police SNT said: “PCSO Gray and PCSO Westby from the local Somercotes and Riddings Safer Neighbourhood Team were out conducting foot patrols to local businesses (recently) during the lead up to Christmas. We provided reassurance to the local shops in the area and engaged with members of the public.
“We also wanted to share some personal safety advice with the public to ensure that you and your family are safe at this time of the year, these are as follows: Don’t carry too much cash and ensure that your purse or wallet is close to your body; If you go for a coffee or lunch, don’t put your bag over the back of a chair or anywhere which is easily accessible by others.
“If travelling by car, park in a well lit area and keep all valuables and purchases out of sight; Don’t leave Christmas presents in full view in windows etc; If you are going out for the evening give the impression that the house is occupied by leaving lights/radio on and close the curtains.”
The spokesman continued: “For more information please contact us using one of the following non-emergency methods: Facebook: send us a private message to/Derbyshire Constabulary; Twitter: direct message our contact centre on @DerPolContact; Website: visit us at https://orlo.uk/3PvL1 and complete the online contact form; Phone: Call us on 101.”
