Students at the David Nieper Academy in Alfreton have been hearing all about working as a sound and broadcast engineer from a music industry guest speaker.
Mr Cakar at the academy said: “Earlier this term, Year 10 and 11 music students had the chance to meet and chat with Oliver Waton, a sound and broadcast engineer who was responsible for the audio on Channel 4’s ‘Educating…’ series, which visited schools in Manchester, Yorkshire, and Essex across multiple seasons.
“Oliver spoke to the students about many of the other projects with which he has been involved as a sound technician and engineer, including Mamma Mia, Late Night Lycett, and Britain’s Got Talent, as well as his live work with musicians such as Ed Sheeran and Noel Gallagher, amongst many others.”

Mr Cakar continued: “Students were offered insight and guidance into how to enter the technical side of the music industry, with Oliver talking our student musicians through a detailed account of his own journey from leaving school to landing his first big project.
“This followed a Q&A session where students were able to ask their own questions about the industry and were even treated to some sneak peeks from the set of the latest season of ‘The Voice,’ which Oliver is currently working on.
“Oliver was then generous enough to watch and give feedback on our Year 11 music students’ final coursework presentations.
“The students had been tasked with organising and composing songs for their own live show, for which they then had to submit a proposal pitch in order to secure funding.
“Oliver commented that he was impressed with the students’ ideas, while the Year 11s found the feedback very beneficial for their final evaluations.
“A huge thank you again to Mr Waton for taking time out of his incredibly busy schedule to deliver what was a very valuable experience for our KS4 students.”
