Local elections will be taking place across in parishes across the wider Alfreton area in May.
There will also be polls to elect members to Amber Valley Borough Council and Bolsover District Council on Thursday, May 4.
Here’s a guide to the local elections, including deadlines for registering, what you’ll need with you to vote and where they will be taking place:
What is the deadline for registering to vote?
The deadline for registering to vote is at 11.59pm on Monday, April 17.
You can register online here.
Do I need to take anything with me to vote?
Yes, you will need to take photo ID with you to the polling station in order to vote.
Accepted forms of ID include a UK driving licence, a passport, a blue badge and an older person’s bus pass.
Can I vote by post?
Yes, you need to be registered to vote before you can apply for a postal vote.
An application form is available to download from the Amber Valley Borough Council website here.
The deadline for applying for a postal vote is 5pm on Tuesday, April 18.
Postal votes will then be sent out by the relevant local authority. Completed postal votes must be returned by 10pm on Thursday, May 4 in order to be counted.
Can I vote by proxy?
Yes, if you can’t make it to the polling station to vote then someone can do so on your behalf.
The deadline for applying to vote by proxy is 5pm on Tuesday, April 25.

Amber Valley
Parish – Parish Ward
Alfreton (East Ward) – 6 councillors to be elected
Alfreton (West Ward) – 9 councillors to be elected
Somercotes – 13 councillors to be elected
South Wingfield – 10 councillors to be elected
Swanwick – 11 councillors to be elected
Borough
Alfreton – 3 councillors to be elected
Ironville and Riddings – 2 councillors to be elected
Somercotes – 2 councillors to be elected
Swanwick – 2 councillors to be elected
Bolsover
Parish – Parish Ward
Blackwell (Blackwell Ward) – 3 councillors to be elected
Blackwell (Hilcote Ward) – 2 councillors to be elected
Blackwell (Newton Ward) – 5 councillors to be elected
Blackwell (Westhouses Ward) – 2 councillors to be elected
South Normanton (East Ward) – 3 councillors to be elected
South Normanton (West Ward) – 7 councillors to be elected
South Normanton Central Ward – 3 councillors to be elected
Tibshelf – 11 councillors to be elected
