Dance students from the David Nieper Academy in Alfreton have been taking part in two competitions.
Miss Gregory at the academy said: “On Tuesday, February 13, the David Nieper Academy Dance Company went to compete in the heats of Mansfield Rotary Junior Showtime 2024.
“Our dancers performed a group dance, as well as Isla Gardom who performed a solo, and Ellie-Mae Dowling and Darcie Jones, who performed a duet.
“We received confirmation that our dance company won their heat and was offered a place in the final, alongside Darcie and Ellie-Mae’s duet.
“The heats were run over three nights, with 103 acts auditioning. 27 performances were selected to perform in the final, which was held at the Mansfield Palace Theatre on Sunday, February 25.
“Our students performed beautifully to a sell-out audience of 550 people and were a credit to the academy. To get through to the final 27 was a fantastic achievement.”

Meanwhile, members of the David Nieper Academy Dance Company have also been taking part in The Great Big Dance Off 2024.
Miss Gregory said: “On February 26, our dance company went to compete in The Great Big Dance Off which was held at the Albert Hall in Nottingham.
“At the event, we competed against other secondary schools from across the East Midlands.
“Our dance company placed third, just four points behind second place.
“Again, this is a fantastic achievement, especially as we competed in the Key Stage 4/5 category.
“Our students showed great resilience throughout the day, as well as demonstrating great support for each other and other schools.
“We are very proud of the David Nieper Academy Dance Company and are already looking forward to next year’s competitions. Our attention now turns to the Joint Concert and our annual Dance Showcase, which will be held on May 2, 2024. Tickets will be available from March 25.”
