Firs Gardens Community Centre, in Alfreton, will open as a warm space this week.

The community centre, on Firs Gardens, will open on Wednesday (December 7) between 11am and 2pm.

There will be free tea, coffee, cake and biscuits for anyone who visits the community centre.

Firs Gardens Community Centre is managed by Futures Housing Group, which is opening warm spaces in locations across Derbyshire as part of a day of action.

The ‘Futures in the Community Day’ will see staff working on different projects to help support local residents.

James Haywood, community engagement project deliver officer at Futures, said: “This day is all about reconnecting with the communities we work in. We know times are difficult for people right now, so we just want to help give a little something back to the places where our customers’ homes are.

“I’m so proud of everyone coming together at Futures to make this work. We hope people come along and join us in the warm spaces as we’re really excited to meet as many people as possible.

“It’s going to be a lovely chance for people to get together with their friends in the community or to meet new people, plus we have free cake.”
