A new scheme is offering Derbyshire residents free transport to vaccination and health screening appointments.

The Grab a Cab project has been launched by Derbyshire County Council and will run until March 31.

The offer is open to anyone who needs help attending appointments and is not means tested.

It covers a pre-paid taxi journey to and from pre-arranged health appointments for certain vaccinations and health screening checks.

Councillor Carol Hart, cabinet member for health and communities at Derbyshire County Council, said: “We know that some people may struggle with getting to routine health appointments which is why we’re offering free transport to help them.

“Attending invites for screening programmes and vaccination appointments is important in helping prevent serious diseases and illnesses from developing.

“If you need support with transport to any of the eligible appointments in our Grab a Cab scheme then please get in touch.”

The Grab a Cab scheme covers the following pre-arranged health appointments:

  • Covid-19, flu, shingles and other NHS provided vaccinations
  • Abdominal aortic aneurysm screening
  • Cervical cancer screening
  • Bowel cancer screening
  • Diabetic eye screening

If you would like to arrange help travelling to one of the appointments above, call 01629 536173 Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm.
