Alfreton’s Christmas festivities will be getting underway this weekend with a series of events taking place across the Derbyshire town centre.
The festive season will officially start in Alfreton on Saturday (November 25) with the Alfreton Town Council organised ‘Christmas Lights Switch On’ extravaganza.
Celebrations will take place at the Genesis Entertainment Centre (with a Christmas Market between midday-5pm) and in Alfreton Indoor Market (with a Festive Craft Fair between 8am-6pm), as well as in and around Alfreton House in High Street (2pm-6pm).
Admission will be free and there will be plenty for the whole family to enjoy, including stalls, entertainment and Santa’s Grotto.

The Christ the King Voluntary Academy Choir (pictured) is just one of the groups which will be providing festive cheer, with a series of Christmas songs which they will take to the Alfreton House stage at 4pm.
The academy choir will be singing; Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer, Santa Claus is Coming to Town, Away in a Manger, Little Donkey, Silent Night, We Wish You a Merry Christmas and Come and Join the Celebration.
Headteacher Megan Watts told the Spirit of Alfreton: “It is very important for us as a school to support the local community in this way and we are delighted to be included in this event again this year.
“Our choir are looking forward to singing for everyone and they have been practising with Miss Smith and Miss Swift to prepare the songs.”
