Grants of up to £1,000 are available to help support community celebrations of the King’s Coronation in Derbyshire.

Community groups, clubs and local charities can apply for up to £1,000 from the Derbyshire Grants scheme to support celebratory events that meet certain criteria.

The applications can take up to three weeks to be assessed so King’s Coronation event organisers are being urged to submit their bids as soon as possible.

Event organisers can also apply for grants from their local county councillor.

Every year, Derbyshire County Council gives each councillor £3,860 as part of its Members Community Leadership Scheme (MCLS).

Local groups can apply for a share of the funding to help support community events and causes.

This year, councillors have been given an additional £1,500 to support events celebrating the King’s Coronation. They were given the same amount last year to help support events celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Councillor Barry Lewis, leader of Derbyshire County Council, said: “We saw such a wide variety of events and activities held to commemorate and celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee last year and I know that Derbyshire is already gearing up to mark the Coronation of King Charles lll.

“It’s an historic occasion and I hope that groups and organisations from across the country will apply for the available funds to get their events and commemorative activities off to a flying start.

“We’re very pleased to be able to extend the MCLS funding for another year and I know that through our councillors and the hard work of local groups and charities, Derbyshire communities will benefit from the extra money available.”
