A consultation on plans to relocate Stonebroom’s Post Office is underway.

The Post Office is currently located at 172 High Street but the proposal is to move it to the Premier Store on Wesley Road, a 13-minute walk away.

A consultation on the proposal explains: “As you may be aware, our postmasters operate Post Office branches alongside their private retail business, and it is important that they make the very best use of their resources to ensure future sustainability of both their business and the Post Office service.

“In this case, the Postmaster has identified an opportunity to move this branch to their other convenience store.

“Our Postmaster firmly believes that the move will help secure continued access to Post Office services locally, as well as supporting the viability of their business.”

At its current location, the Post Office is open between 9am and 6pm Monday to Friday and between 9am and 4pm on Saturdays.

If the relocation is approved, the Post Office would open between 9am and 5.30pm Monday to Saturday.

According to a document attached to the consultation, the same range of products and services would be available with the addition of the National Lottery.

If approved, the Post Office is expected to relocate in June or July.

The consultation is underway now and will close on May 17.
