A kind-hearted community initiative is hosting its first ever food drive to help those in need.
The Loaves and Fishes Pantry Shop in Alfreton, which was set up in December 2022, provides discounted food for those struggling during the current cost of living crisis.
The pantry, which is based at Alfreton Christian Centre in Hall Street, is open weekly on Thursdays between 10am and 12pm.
The volunteer team at Loaves and Fishes are hosting a ‘Food Drive’ later this month.
A spokesman for the initiative said: “We are doing our first ever food drive on Saturday, January 27, between 12pm and 3pm.
“As this is our first ever food drive, we would really appreciate your support.
“We accept donations of non-perishable, long-life foods, as well as hygiene items such as shampoo and shower gel.
“Even just a few items would be very much appreciated.
“It will all go towards people in need at this time.”
They added: “As you can imagine, we are having to do this as we were very busy just before Christmas and we are struggling for money to restock. Any help at all would be appreciated.”
