Members of a Derbyshire air cadet unit have been gaining leader awards.
The three members at Alfreton & Ripley Air Cadets recently undertook assessment for their ‘Lowland Leader Award.’
A spokesman for the squadron said: “Congratulations to APO Bramley, FS Slack and CWO Shedden who recently, along with four other members of Trent Wing, successfully passed their Lowland Leader Award assessment.
“For the past few months they have been working hard to get prepared for the assessment. Under the mentorship of Flt Lt Hill, they have honed their expedition skills, completed the required amount of quality lowland walks and attended the necessary training sessions.”
The spokesman continued: “During the assessment they were tested on their navigation skills, group leadership and management of first aid/emergency situations.
“Having passed they are now deemed competent to supervise and lead cadets as part of lowland hiking activities.
“They now intend to put their new qualification to good use by facilitating cadet expedition activities, along with assisting with Duke of Edinburgh Award Expeditions delivered by Trent Wing.”
They added: “Well done to all those involved. A big thanks to Flt Lt Dave Hill, Flt Lt David Bell and Flt Lt Helene Woodham for organising the training and assessment.”
