Alfreton’s Loaves and Fishes Pantry Shop needs more food donations to help it keep up with demand.

The pantry, based at Alfreton Christian Centre in Hall Street, opened at the beginning of December and is open weekly on Thursdays between 10am and 12pm.

It is run by Alfreton Churches Together Serving – a coalition of local churches – and offers discounted food to those who are struggling financially.

The pantry relies on donations but it has been struggling to source enough to support the 59 households it helps.

It now charges £3 per bag to cover the cost of buying some essential items to stocks topped up.

The pantry is in need of donations of long-life foods and hygiene and sanitary products.

Donations can be left at Alfreton Christian Centre on Wednesday between 2pm and 4pm, or during pantry opening times.

They can also be taken to the Pamper Hut on Mansfield Road.

The Loaves and Fishes Pantry Shop will host a fundraising Quiz Night on August 19.

Teams of up to six are invited to take part but they must pre-book.

Entry is £5 per person and all money raised will support the pantry shop.
