Saturday 19 August was the first ever quiz night held at Alfreton Christian Centre to raise funds for the Loaves and Fishes Pantry Shop.

The Loaves and Fishes are a small and independent not-for-profit organisation, which helps to offer discounted food for those struggling during the current cost of living crisis.

They run out of Alfreton Christian Centre on a Thursday morning between 10am and noon.

It currently helps 63 households in need. They struggle for donations so events like this help them to keep running.

It was a good turnout with around 35 people in attendance helping to make up 8 teams.

Each person had paid £5 entry, which included refreshments and 1 free raffle ticket, with the choice of buying more at 50p each.

A range of raffle prizes were on offer, including some from local businesses, ranging from a boxed pen to a month’s free gym membership.

A big thank you to Grandma’s Kitchen Events in Pinxton, The Pamper Hut on Mansfield Road in Alfreton, Dawn Sheriston-Jowett – Sports Massage And Holistic Therapist, GymFit in Ripley, Amber’s Beauty in Ripley and Masson Mills for their donation of prizes.

The winning team also won an hour’s free bowling courtesy of Chesterfield Bowl. In total, the night raised £281.50 with a late donation.

A great time was had by all who attended and there will be another quiz this time next year, so look out for details then!
