Father Mark Taylor, Priest-in-Charge of Alfreton, Riddings and Ironville, has written about Alfreton’s Platinum Jubilee Service of Thanksgiving, which took place at St Martin’s Church.
On Friday 3rd of June, St Martin’s Church held a Civic service in honour of Her Majesty the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. It was a lovely sunny day, the church garden looked resplendent and the bells within the tower rang out a special Quarter Peal which comprised of Grandsire Triples. We were extremely fortunate to have Her Majesty represented by the Lord Lieutenant of Derbyshire, Mrs Elizabeth Fothergill and representing the Town Council, our newly elected Mayor of Alfreton, Mr John Walker along with retiring Mayoress, Mrs Marlene Bennet were present.
It was so lovely to be able to welcome some new faces at St Martin’s, and to assist us with our celebrations after the service there were some delicious cakes, teas and coffees. All in all, we had a great afternoon, and so many thanks to all who came along to celebrate, especially our Civic Guests.
