A 44-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder and arson following an incident in a Derbyshire village.
A spokesman for Derbyshire Constabulary said today (Wednesday, June 12): “A man has been charged with a number of offences including attempted murder and arson in Swanwick.
“It follows an investigation into an incident at a property on Gordon Road on Saturday, June 8.
“Officers were called around 12.10pm to reports of an assault and a fire, and a man aged in his 70s was taken to hospital where he remains in a serious condition.
“Rostislav Godla, of no fixed address, has been charged with attempted murder, arson with intent, theft in a dwelling, false imprisonment and fraud by false representation.
“The 44-year-old remains in custody and is due to appear at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates Court tomorrow (Thursday, June 13).”
The police spokesman continued: “Three women and two other men were also arrested on suspicion of fraud and have been released on police bail while enquiries continue.
“Patrols are ongoing in the local area by officers from our local Safer Neighbourhood team for reassurance, and we would encourage anyone with any concerns to speak to them.
“Detectives would still like to hear from anyone who may have noticed anything suspicious or with any information that could help with their enquiries.”
They added: “If you can help, please contact us with reference 24000336381 via our website, Facebook, X, or by calling 101.
