The Alfreton team is currently 8th in the National League North Table with 41 points.
Here is the full match report and photo from Saturday’s game from Alfreton Football Club’s website.
Reds record first home win over Magpies since memorable Danny O’Brien strike inspired a win in 2019.
A complete performance by Alfreton Town ensured the points with a goal in each half of their National League North game on Saturday.
Chorley had arrived at the Impact Arena riding high in third spot, but were made to look more like third bottom as they were outwitted and outplayed throughout the 90 minutes.
George Cantrill opened the scoring after 35 minutes when he struck home a loose ball after Adam Lund’s long throw had only been partially cleared – it was only the enigmatic midfielder’s second goal for the Reds in 79 appearances.
Alfreton doubled their lead 13 minutes into the second half when Liam Waldock volleyed home after Ryan Taylor had picked out the goalscorer to complete a fluent move on the left.
Chorley were restricted to the odd chance as the Reds strode confidently through the game, their best effort coming with 19 minutes remaining through Jack Sampson’s blocked shot.
Alfreton’s catalogue of openings started with Lewis Salmon earning a third minute corner with a run to the bye-line, then a neat move involving Waldock and Cantrill ended with Lund firing over.
Either side of the opening goal Waldock fired wide from the edge of the area and Salmon fired across the bows of the six-yard box.
A Kennedy Digie header came back off the crossbar two minutes after half-time, then eight minutes later both Digie and Harry Perritt saw close-range shots blocked.
After the second goal the barrage continued with Taylor and Waldock combining to set up Billy Fewster’s effort that was blocked by keeper Matt Urwin.
Fewster was again denied by Urwin following another long Lund throw,, then in added time Waldock’s shot was blocked with Digie steering the follow-up wide of the target.
ALFRETON: Willis; Perritt, Digie, Wiley, Newall, Lund, Cantrill, Fewster [Clackstone 90], Waldock, Salmon, Taylor. Other subs: Thewlis, Day, Brisley, Askew.
