MP Mark Fletcher is urging residents to support his petition calling for improvements to be made to Junction 28 of the M1.
The Bolsover MP, whose constituency includes South Normanton, is campaigning to secure government funding for improvements to the busy M1 junction.
During a debate in Westminster on the topic earlier this month, Mr Fletcher described the junction as “not fit for purpose and over capacity”.
As part of his campaign, Mr Fletcher has launched a petition calling on the Secretary of State for Transport to approve funding for the improvements.
The petition explains: “At a recent meeting with Highways England, they outlined to me their new design, which has an extremely high Cost Benefit Ratio and demonstrates significant improvements to journey times, as well as a decrease in the number of injuries from collisions.
“But now we need to secure the funding – and that means I need your help.
“I am launching this petition to demonstrate the support for this project amongst the local community. The more signatures the petition receives the greater chance our application for funding will be accepted by the government, so please share this as widely as possible.”
If you would like to sign the petition, you can do so here.
