Today (Monday, February 6) marks the beginning of National Apprenticeship Week – a time to celebrate apprentices and highlight some of the opportunities that are available.

We know that there are a number of brilliant apprenticeship opportunities available in the DE55 postcode area so we thought we’d put together a round-up of some currently listed on the government’s website.

Estimator Apprentice at Ilam Stone Ltd in Alfreton

The 15-month apprenticeship is based in an office and duties will include handling customer enquiries, providing product pricing information and quotations, providing sales administration support, and following up on quotations and processing orders accordingly.

The apprenticeship is for 40 hours a week, working 8.30am until 5pm Monday to Friday.

The advert explains: “You will be expected to work towards the Business Administrator Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard, with support from your employer and the Chesterfield College Group.”

Annual wage: £12,480.

Exams and Data Administation Apprentice at the David Nieper Academy in Alfreton

The 15-month apprenticeship will see the successful applicant work towards the Business Administrator Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard.

Main duties and responsibilities include supporting running and administration of exams, support with the production of academy data and to invigilate school exams.

The apprenticeship is for 37 hours a week, between 8am and 4pm Monday to Friday.

Annual wage: £10,582.

Apprentice Plumber at Dennis Rye Ltd in Tibshelf

The four-year apprenticeship will work towards a Level 3 Plumbing and Domestic Heating Technician – Natural Gas Pathway Full program apprenticeship standard.

Working hours will be 7am until 4.30pm Monday to Thursday and 7am until 1.30pm on Fridays.

Duties will include servicing of domestic plumbing and heating systems, and installing equipment.

Annual wage: £15,600.

IT Support Technician Apprenticeship at CB IT Consultancy in Alfreton

This 18-month apprenticeship is “perfect for a dedicated, ambitious and technical individual who enjoys working within IT and is looking to expand their knowledge into the world of business IT support”.

Working hours are yet to be decided but the total hours worked per week (Monday to Friday) will be 37.5.

Annual wage: £9,379.50.

Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship at David Nieper Academy

This Teaching Assistant Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard role is set to take place over 18 months and is expected to lead to progression within the school.

Role responsibilities include motivating students to complete tasks set by their teacher, creating displays of pupils’ work and supporting staff and students in the classroom.

Working hours are 8.05am until 4.35pm Monday to Friday.

Annual wage: £11,440.

Engineer Fitter Apprentice at Keljay Ltd in Alfreton

“This is a fantastic opportunity to start your career as an engineering fitter with a well-established and growing engineering company based in Alfreton.”

Main duties include fitting and assembly of components, supporting site installation projects and the refurbishment and maintenance of components.

The successful candidate will be expected to work towards the Engineering Fitter Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard.

Working hours will be between 7am and 4.30pm Monday to Friday.

Annual wage: £11,225.40 to £22,230

Volvo Trucks Heavy Vehicle Technician Apprenticeship at Hartshorne Motor Services Limited in Alfreton

This three-year apprenticeship is the Level 3 Heavy Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician standard programme.

The apprenticeship description explains: “There is a lot involved in keeping HGVs on the road, so you will gain a full understanding of the importance of six-week checks, Operators licences and legal obligations and as a technician apprentice, you will receive training to the manufacturer and DVSA’s standard A Heavy Vehicle Service Technician will inspect, maintain, and repair large vehicles weighing 3.5 tonnes and over such as HGVs and buses.”

Working hours will be 8am until 5pm, Monday to Friday.

Annual wage: £10,004.80

Apprentice Maintenance Technician at Owen Taylor and Sons in Leabrooks

This 42-month apprenticeship will follow the Level 3 Engineering Technician Apprenticeship Standard – Mechatronics Pathway. It will be made up of four days in the workplace and one day completing college work.

The apprenticeship will focus on ensuring the running of services to the factory and maintaining equipment for food production.

Annual wage: £15,600

Accounts Assistant Apprentice at Staff Health in Stonebroom

This role will work towards the Accounts Assistant Level 2 Apprenticeship Standard and the successful applicant will also study the AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting.

The apprentice will provide general financial and administrative support to the finance manager and work alongside them to support accurate and timely processing of financial transactions.

Working hours will be 8.30am until 3pm, Monday to Friday.

Annual wage: £8,236.80

Safety, Health and Environment Apprentice at Turbine Repair Technologies Ltd in Somercotes

This apprenticeship will work towards the Level 3 Safety Health and Environment Technician Standard qualification, an ISOH approved Accident Investigation Certificate.

Main duties and responsibilities will include carrying out relevant health and safety checks, assist with fire alarm testing and support the ongoing development and implementation of effective health and safety systems on site.

Working hours will be 9am until 5pm, Monday to Friday.

Annual wage: £10,725

Purchasing Apprenticeship at GDUK Door Solutions Limited in Somercotes

The successful candidate will work towards a Level 3 Procurement and Supply Assistant apprenticeship standard. They will also complete L3 CIPS qualification alongside the apprenticeship.

The apprentice will raise purchase orders for the company, assist with inputting stock figures from stock take reports and resolve invoice queries with the accounts department.

Working hours will be 8.30am until 5pm, Monday to Thursday and 8.30am until 4pm on Fridays.

Annual wage: £9,129.38

Apprenticeship Warehouse Operatives at MJ Allen National Auto Parts Ltd in Somercotes

Two apprenticeships – both Supply Chain Warehouse Operative Apprenticeship Standard Level 2 – are available.

The successful candidates will gain hands-on experience in all areas of the business while developing a comprehensive knowledge of all aspects of the Stores and Distribution Department.

Responsibilities will include picking and packing stock for customer orders and despatching them.

Working hours will be 8.30am until 5pm, Monday to Friday.

Annual wage: £15,000
