A social club in a Derbyshire town is set to become a ‘community hub’ for the area.
Alfreton Town Council is working with the team at Palmer Morewood Memorial Club, which is situated in Hall Street, to create a community hub for the town.
A spokesman for the Palmer Morewood Memorial Social Club said: “We are pleased to announce that we are officially the new Community Hub for Alfreton. There is a competition to give the hub a name and possibly a logo.”
The spokesman continued: “Don’t worry, the club will still be running as normal with all our usual events.
“This is just an extra venture we have entered into with the support of Alfreton Town Council.
“We look forward to the future and whatever it may bring.”
The new community hub was one of the topics on the agenda at the May meeting of Alfreton Town Council.
A ‘Terms of Reference’ draft document for a ‘Community Hub Working Group’ was noted and agreed by council members.
Within the document, it set out the community hub’s aim as: “To make a difference to our community by improving the lives of people who live, work and pass through Alfreton.”
Within the objectives of the working group for the community hub, the same document states: “Agrees on the vision, aim and objectives of the Community Hub (what does success look like); Provide support, direction and advice on what the holistic service could be, that can support residents in addressing wider needs and becoming what the community wants and needs; Develops and improves the existing links and partnerships with CVS and other existing hubs and ensures that the Community hub is integrated across Amber Valley; By providing a place where different local partners and people can come together and address the issues that matter most to them; and Celebrating the assets of Alfreton; their people and place.”
A spokesman for the council said of the Community Hub Naming and Logo Competition: “Palmer Morewood Memorial Club in Hall Street, Alfreton, is becoming a community hub. Supported by Alfreton Town Council, this space will be a vibrant centre for local activities, events, and connections. But it needs a name.
“Join our Naming Competition and help us find the perfect name for this hub. Here’s how: 1. Submit Your Idea: Comment on our Facebook page with your creative name suggestion for the community hub. It could be something historical, reflective of the area, or just plain catchy.
“2. Logo Design Bonus: If you’re feeling extra creative, design a logo to go with your suggested name. Upload it along with your entry.
“3. Prizes Await! The winning name and logo will be featured prominently at the hub, and the lucky winner will receive a special prize.
The spokesman continued: “Deadline: submit your entries by June 30, 2024.
“Entries can also be sent by email to office@alfretontc.co.uk or handed in at the Town Council offices or Palmer Morewood Memorial Social Club.
“Let’s make this community hub truly memorable. Share your ideas and spread the word.”
