Pepco Group will acquire Alfreton’s Wilko store and will open the site as a Poundland.
PwC, administrators of Wilko, announced on Monday (September 11) that all stores would close following the collapse of attempts to save the company.
It was confirmed that Alfreton’s store, located on Institute Lane, will be one of 38 Wilko stores to close on Tuesday, September 19.
Now, just 24 hours later, PwC has announced that Alfreton’s store is among 71 to be acquired by Pepco Group, which owns Poundland.
An update released by PwC says Pepco group will open the 71 shops as Poundland stores “after the administration trading period concludes at those sites”.
Edward Williams, joint administrator, said: “Alongside the previously announced agreement with B&M, we’re confident this sale will create a platform for future employment opportunities for people including current Wilko team members at up to 122 locations.
“We continue to engage with other retailers around any interest in other Wilko sites and are confident of completing a sale of the brand and intellectual property within the coming days.”
