The Derbyshire village of South Normanton has been illuminated for the start of the festive season.
There was lots of family festive fun during the 2023 South Normanton Christmas Lights Switch On event which took place on Sunday, November 26.
As well as the official switching on of the village’s Christmas Lights by special guests and local residents Alice and Jo at 5.30pm, there was carol singing accompanied by a brass band, and refreshments were available for all to enjoy.
A spokesman for organisers South Normanton Parish Council said: “Another incredible South Normanton Christmas Lights Switch On.
“The village Market Place came alive from 5pm as the crowd eagerly gathered to witness the magical moment when our special guests, Alice and Jo, flicked the switch, illuminating South Normanton with the festive glow of Christmas lights.
“The Heage Brass Band filled the air with the joyful tunes of Christmas Carols, creating a perfect backdrop to the holiday spirit.
“The South Normanton Churches Together Choir, along with local residents and parish councillors, added their voices to the harmonious celebration, making it a true community affair.”
The spokesman continued: “A heartfelt thank you to everyone who made this event a success and joined in the festive cheer.
“We would like to say a very big thank you to the following: South Normanton Churches Together who provided tea and coffee, venue, tea lights for the children; South Normanton Parish Council who provided hot chocolate, mince pies, children’s drinks, mulled wine (Alice and Jo were presented with flowers after the switch on); Flints florist who provided the flowers for Alice and Jo; The Gala Crew who donated all the sweets for the children; HW Martin who provided the road signs and the traffic management team; The Heage Band who provided the brass band and carols; Scott Chambers for the Bolsover TV video; and Martin Wilson (Dot Five Nine) for the event photography and video.
“Let the holiday season officially begin in South Normanton.”
