A new planning application seeks permission to build a pizza bar in the beer garden of a historic Alfreton pub.

The application, submitted to Amber Valley Borough Council, is for Pesto at The Peacock, in Oakerthorpe.

Documents attached to the application explain: “The submitted planning application seeks consent for the formation of a new retractable roof structure within the beer garden.

“The new structure will house an ‘external’ bar and pizza oven relocated from its current position to the west of the beer garden, and an ambulant male, and ambulant female WC.”

If the application is approved, a new path will be built linking the new pizza bar with the car park.

The pub dates back to the eleventh century and, according to the planning application, is thought to be the oldest inn in Derbyshire.
