Plans for Alfreton’s bumper Platinum Jubilee celebrations revealed

Plans for Alfreton’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations have been revealed – and it looks set to be a brilliant couple of days!

Alfreton Town Council has revealed that a series of events will be taking place in various locations in celebration of the historic landmark event.

The celebrations will be spread across four days and will provide something for people of all ages.

Here’s a look at exactly what will be happening and when:

Thursday, June 2

Lighting of the Beacon Ceremony and Open Evening

Set to take place at Alfreton Park Community Special School, this event will include performances by Alfreton Male Voice Choir and Alfreton Treble Clef Choir.

Friday, June 3

Service of Thanksgiving

This will take place at St Martins Church at 2pm.

The Lord-Lieutenant of Derbyshire, Mrs Elizabeth Fothergill, CBE, will be attending.

Saturday, June 4

Party in the Town!

Set to be an action-packed afternoon, Party in the Town! will include a number of live musical performances from a range of different artists.

There will also be free face painting.

Party in the Town! will start at 2pm.

Sunday, June 5

A Royal Teddy Bears Picnic

This sounds like a brilliant event for young families.

Bring a picnic and your teddy bears for a Royal Teddy Bears picnic in Alfreton Park between 11am and 5pm.

There’ll be a range of different activities taking place on the day, as well as prizes for the best dressing teddy bear.

Performance by Death of the High Street

Enjoy an evening of live music at Alfreton Cricket Club from 7pm onwards.
