Police have been cracking down on retail crime across the Amber Valley area.
The work, which has been carried out by Alfreton Police SNT, has seen officers “deal with” more than 15 suspects who were identified and caught in the act of retail crime.
A spokesman for the force said: “This week is Retail Crime Week. This is a frequent problem which affects not only large organisations, but also smaller independent businesses.
“As a Safer Neighbourhood Team covering the Amber Valley area, in the last month alone, as a team, we have dealt with over 15 suspects identified and caught in the act.”
The spokesman continued: “The alarming figure of items which have been seized as a result of these shop thefts amounts to over £10,000.
“Items include huge amounts of alcohol, clothing, shoes, cleaning products and expensive food items such as coffee, cheese and fresh meat.”
