Local police officers will offer free number plate security kits in various locations next week.
Anyone wanting a free kit will also be able to ask to have it fitted for them.
Posting on Facebook, Alfreton Police SNT explained that the theft of number plates is rising nationally.
They wrote: “Thieves will look to conceal the identity of a vehicle by changing the registration plate and then continue to commit further crime in the hope that they will not be detected.
“In order to help combat this problem, Safer Neighbourhood Teams across Amber Valley will be present at a number of different locations to offer anti-tamper screws with fitting (upon request).
Security kits will be available in the following locations:
South Normanton – Monday, January 23
The Hub, Shiners Way, between 4pm and 6pm.
Alfreton – Tuesday, January 24
Tesco, Hall Street, between 4pm and 6pm.
Somercotes – Sunday, January 29
Somercotes Parish Hall, Nottingham Road, between 6pm and 8pm.
