Phoenix Bowls Club could have a new pavilion to look forward to in the future if a planning application is approved.
The club has asked Amber Valley Borough Council for permission to build a new pavilion next to the bowling green at Somercotes Park, off Sherwood Street, Leabrooks.
A design and access statement submitted as part of the application explains: “The proposed building will be located on a parcel of land next to the Somerlea Park Community Centre.
“The original pavilion and bowling green were build after WW1. The pavilion was demolished in 2009 to make way for the community centre. A replacement pavilion did not materialise.”
The proposed building would be built next to the community centre and would include a club room, kitchen, stores and toilet facilities.
If approved, the application would allow Phoenix Bowls Club members to continue playing during the winter months as the club room would be able to accommodate two short mat bowls rinks.
The proposed building could also be used by community groups, local residents and club members.
