A council in Derbyshire is warning residents of scam social media posts relating to stall holders for a town’s market.
Amber Valley Borough Council has issued the warning after the scam posts, which state that they are appealing for stall holders for a fayre in June at Alfreton Indoor Market, have appeared on Facebook.
A spokesman for the council said today (Tuesday, May 14): “We want to bring to your attention a concerning issue regarding some recent posts circulating on Facebook.
“It has come to our notice that there are unauthorised advertisements claiming to be on behalf of Amber Valley Borough Council, promoting stalls for rent at Alfreton Indoor Market.”
The spokesman continued: “Please be advised that these posts are not affiliated with the council or Alfreton Indoor Market in any way.
“They are part of a scam aimed at deceiving unsuspecting individuals, so please do not make any bookings via these posts.
“Your safety and security are our priority, and we urge you to remain vigilant.
“If you come across any posts that seem suspicious or raise doubts, please do not hesitate to reach out to the council directly on 01773 570222.”

The ‘stall holders wanted’ scam posts appear to have been written by a ‘Sue Halford’ (a Facebook profile which was created on April 16) who has also posted similar Facebook posts for other town centre venues across the country, including – as far as the Spirit of Alfreton could spot – in Norfolk, Warwickshire, West Sussex, and Northern Ireland, to name but a few.
