Alfreton’s Christmas lights are set to be switched on this weekend – and there’ll be a huge celebration taking place in town to mark the occasion!
Alfreton’s Christmas lights will be switched on at around 5.30pm on Saturday (November 26) but hours of entertainment in town before then.
A jam-packed schedule of entertainment, organised by Alfreton Town Council, will get underway in Severn Square at 10am.
Here is a quick look at what will be happening and where:
The day’s festivities will get underway here at 10am with entertainment from Jugalubs, which will be bringing all the fun of the circus until 1pm.
Ilkeston Brass Band will be performing between 11am and 1pm, and there will be a range of stalls in the square.
Alfreton Indoor Market will be joining the festivities too. Santa’s sleigh will be in the market, where there will also be face painting and badge-making activities taking place.
Individual traders based at the market will also be organising their own promotions and activities.
High Street – by the tree
Students from David Nieper Academy will be performing between 1.30pm and 2pm.
A number of different choir and entertainment performances will take place here from 2pm. It’s also where Santa will switch on the Christmas lights, where you can visit his grotto and where you can enjoy fairground rides.

2.30pm to 3pm – David Nieper Academy
3pm to 3.15pm – Joker Entertainment
3.15pm to 3.45pm – JL Dance Academy
3.45pm to 4.15pm – Joker Entertainment
4.15pm to 4.45pm – Treble Clef Choir
5pm to 5.20pm – Woodbridge Junior School Choir
5.20pm to 5.40pm – Joker/Santa
5.40pm to 6pm – Copthorne Infant Junior School
Alfreton Town Centre
A variety of characters will be making appearances in various locations around town throughout the day.

2pm to 3pm – Elsa and Elf on the Shelf
3pm to 4.30pm – Mickey and Minnie
4.30pm to 6pm – Chrissy and the Grinch
5.20pm to 5.40pm – Chrissy and the Grinch will join Santa on stage
