MP Mark Fletcher called for the “long overdue upgrade” of Junction 28 of the M1 during a debate in Westminster.
The Bolsover MP, whose constituency includes South Normanton, was joined by Amber Valley MP Nigel Mills and Ashfield MP Lee Anderson during the debate on Wednesday (January 11).
Mr Fletcher highlighted concerns around safety at the junction – also known as the Pinxton Interchange – which he described as not being fit for purpose despite being of “major strategic importance”.
He said: “This junction is simply not fit for purpose and over capacity. Whether it comes to safety, delays, air pollution or reliability, Junction 28’s design is causing problems.”
During the debate, Mr Mills raised concerns about how the junction causes traffic to queue back along the A38 to Alfreton and Swanwick.
Mr Fletcher is asking residents to share their views about Junction 28 to help strengthen his call for improvements.
