A new dance school in Alfreton is preparing to put on its first ever show.

Drop the Beat Dance Studio will put on its show ‘Genesis’ at David Nieper Academy on August 4 and 5 at 7pm.

The dance school was opened in January by Lucy Holmes, who had previously worked at the Clare Sales School of Dance.

Lucy said: “It’s always been a passion of mine. I’ve always wanted my own dance school.

“I’ve been dancing since I was two-and-a-half. My specialism is hip-hop and freestyle, that’s what I enjoy the most.

“I love teaching all ages. I just think it’s so nice that they change and develop and have their own opinion on the style of dance that they like, and to be able to portray what they feel through dance.”

Lucy teaches various dance styles at the school, which is based at the Genesis Centre on King Street, including hip-hop, musical theatre and contemporary.

The dance school is already making a name for itself in the local community and will be performing at Ironville’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations next month.

Dance students are also working hard to prepare for their show ‘Genesis’, where they will showcase what they have been learning in class.

Explaining the name of the show, Lucy said: “I wanted something for a new beginning.”

Tickets for ‘Genesis’ are now on sale. They are £10 per person. Children under the age of one are free.

Tickets can be purchased by messaging Drop the Beat Dance Studio on social media or by visiting the dance school.
