Summer holiday fun: Five places to visit within half an hour’s drive of Alfreton

Looking for some local summer holiday day out inspiration? Then look no further.

Here are five destinations for family fun this summer, and what’s more – they are all within 30-minutes of Alfreton and easily accessed by car or public transport.

Matlock Farm Park

Heralded as the Visitor Attraction of The Year 2022 at the Tourism Awards, Matlock Farm Park has a lot to offer to people of all ages. It has many indoor and outdoor fun activities, including a play barn, UK’s largest Jumping Pillow and Go Kart rides.

Located in Derbyshire at Jaggers Lane, Near Two Dales, Matlock DE4 5LH.

Weekday ticket prices are £11.95 for adults, £9.95 for children (4 to 14 years), £7.95 for toddlers (2 to 3 years), under twos are free and concessions are £9.95.

At the weekend, tickets are £12.95 for adults, £10.95 for children (4 to 14 years) is £10.95, £9.95 for toddlers (2 to 3 years), under twos are free and  concessions are £10.95.

Gulliver’s Kingdom

Gulliver’s Kingdom is a theme park with thrilling rides and unique attractions for people of all ages.

The park is home to rides like the Log Fume, Drop Tower, Jumping Star, Dino Falls, and lots of attractions and experiences. You can also opt for a short break and have a sleepover in themed accommodations.

Located in Matlock Bath, the park is free for children under 90cm. The weekday entrance for a park day ticket is £18 for an adult and child and £16 for seniors. The weekend entrance for a park day ticket is £24 for an adult and child and £22 for seniors.

Heights of Abraham

Heights of Abraham is a hilltop park you can reach by riding a cable car. It is Derbyshire’s oldest attraction your ticket gains you access to more 60 acres of property spread through exhibition grounds, adventure playgrounds, woodland walks, and show caverns with guided tours.

The cable car tickets, if booked in advance or online for an adult is £23, the child (aged 5 to 15) is £15, the family (2 adults and 2 children) is £69, and children under 5 go free. Cable car tickets if booked on the same day are £24 for an adult, £15.50 for a child (aged 5 to 15), £71 for a family (2 adults and 2 children), and children under 5 go free.

Crich Tramway Village

Crich Tramway Village is a family attraction that is also the home of the National Tramway Museum. It is a famous tourist attraction that takes you back in time on its vintage tram rides.

The trams take you into the open countryside with an Edwardian village setup with cafes, gift shops, and sweet shops. Other buildings in this museum include the Red Lion Club.

Tickets cost £20 per adult, £17.50 for seniors over 60 years, £12 for child (aged 4 to 15) and £44 for a family ticket (2 adults/3 children or 1 adult/4 child).

The tickets for less abled visitors for adults are £13.50, seniors over 60 years are £13.50, child (aged four to 15) are £9.

Deception Escape Rooms

The Deception Escape Room is a mystery adventure room where you can play with two to six people to see if you can escape from it within 60 and 90 minutes.

Choose from four escape room experiences, each with a different ‘threat’. It is suitable for children over eight years and an adult should accompany those under 14.

The price varies based on the experience. Trapped, Jilted and Scarytale costs £20 per person for a game of 60 minutes. Operation stuck costs £25 per person for a game of 90 mins. Online games cost £20 and board games cost £12 per game.
