Police in the Alfreton area have been carrying out sweeps as part of a national campaign to crack down on knife crime.
Police across Derbyshire are enhancing their fight against knife crime this week by taking part in the national campaign of Operation Sceptre.
A spokesman for Alfreton Police SNT said yesterday (Monday, May 13): “Today, as part of the national Operation Sceptre week of intensification on knife crime, the team have been out and about in South Normanton and Pinxton conducting knife sweeps at the parks.
“Whilst we know it is the minority of people who think it is acceptable to carry a knife, it can have devastating consequences when they do.”
The spokesman continued: “This work means that we can check for any discarded knives or weapons and safely dispose of them, keeping them from getting into the wrong hands.”
