The Spirit of Alfreton is a community news website, which was established in 2020 as a reaction to the Covid-19 crisis.
It was designed to help the people of Alfreton to stay in touch and support each other during difficult times.
It was donated to the town by the Nieper family, who now continue to cover the costs of running the site which has since gone from strength-to-strength, becoming the ‘go to’ site for local news and views in the area, attracting more than 4,000 visits every month.
The Spirit of Alfreton has a mission of being “for the community, by the community” so the website team are encouraging people of Alfreton and surrounding areas to use the ‘Tell Us Your News’ facility it has on the website to share your news with them.
Editor Belinda Hargreaves said: “Our website is designed to celebrate and showcase all that Alfreton and the surrounding areas have to offer – but there’s so much going on and we need folk to help us do this.
“People can use the ‘Tell Us Your News’ feature to share whatever information they would like with us – news, details of a local event, a personal achievement, a charity fundraiser, or even a personal celebration such as a special wedding anniversary or birthday.
“It is really easy to use – and it’s completely free.”
Belinda continued: “All you have to do in order to use this feature and share your news with us, is register on the website and set up your login details.
“Once you’ve done this, you’ll be good to go and can share information to be posted on the website whenever you like.
“The Spirit of Alfreton is an online hub for local information. That means that anybody from the local community – individuals, businesses, schools, sports teams and more – are invited to use our website to share their news and information.
“We would also love to see your pictures and video of life in Alfreton and the surrounding areas. There’s no story too small. If you see something unusual happening, why not take a quick snap and share it with us? Or if you take a really nice picture on a walk, for example, we’d love to see and share that too.
“We also have a comprehensive What’s On calendar – the place to find out what’s happening in and around Alfreton. Those who register to upload information to the website can also submit such event details.”
Belinda added: “We are also here to help strengthen the voice of the local community, so let us know if there’s a particular issue that you are concerned about or if you would like us to help raise the profile of something happening around the town.
“Our audience and reach is growing daily. Let’s work together and keep the community up to date with what’s happening locally.
“Furthermore, people can keep up to date with the latest on our Facebook page, The Spirit of Alfreton.”
