Students at the David Nieper Academy in Alfreton have been enjoying a variety of extra-curricular activities.
The latest activities at the Grange Street establishment have included taking part in a Mastermind style contest, as well as Boccia and rowing.
Miss Perry at the academy said: “This half-term Year 9 house competition saw the return of the infamous DNA mastermind, with Mr Ruddy taking the usual spot as question master.
“The specialist categories were: Henry Peapell with Avengers (Amber); Honey Fellows with Greek Mythology (Derwent); Connor Sanderson with Alton Towers (Erewash); and Paiton Toseland with Henry VIII wife (Trent).
“Well done to all four students who put their names forward to represent their houses.
“It was a great competition and very tight in points.
“However, in the end, Honey Fellows for Derwent took the Mastermind crown of 2024. Well done Honey.”

Moving onto their SEN Boccia activity, Mrs Frost-Briggs at the academy, said: “Two teams took part in this year’s AVSSP boccia competition at Alfreton Leisure Centre.
“After some close games in the group stages, DNA 2 finished first and DNA 1 finished second.
“In a closely contested final, DNA2 narrowly missed the opportunity to represent Amber Valley in the county competition by one point. Well done.”
Mrs Frost-Briggs also said of the academy’s participation in a recent KS3 Rowing Competition: “Our KS3 inclusive rowing team took part in the AVSSP rowing competition.
“After some hard-fought battles, David Nieper Academy finished first.
“They were all fantastic role models for the primary schools attending the events.”
