Derbyshire County Council wants to hear from residents who are interested in having an electric car charging point installed on their street.
The council has agreed to install 500 car charging points connected to the electrical supply for street lights in areas where residents have no off-road parking but it needs to know where they could be placed.
Residents who believe that having access to an on-street charging point would help them make the switch to an electric car are being asked to register their interest as part of a public consultation on the issue.
The consultation will also ask residents’ views on the need for charging points in public car parks.
Councillor Carolyn Renwick, cabinet member for infrastructure and environment, said: “This is a new initiative for Derbyshire to support local motorists to make the switch to cleaner, greener vehicles to help cut carbon emissions.
“We know a huge proportion of Derbyshire homes do not have off-road parking which means that switching to an electric vehicle is not an easy option for many residents at a time when electric vehicles are entering the second-hand market making them a more affordable option for some.”
