A new service allows deaf people to make 999 calls using British Sign Language (BSL).
999 BSL links callers with a remote BSL interpreter via its app or website. The interpreter will then relay conversations with emergency operators.
999 BSL launched last week, on Friday, June 17, to ensure that no deaf person is excluded in the event of an emergency. For example, if lives are at risk, if somebody is seriously injured or if a serious offence has or is being committed.
The app is available for download on iOS and Android devices.
The website is available here.
