Alfreton Town Council has expressed its disappointment after vandalism at Centenary Green.
The council posted a series of pictures on Facebook on Thursday (August 25) showing various examples of graffiti.
A statement posted alongside the pictures said: “The town council were saddened to hear that over the weekend various areas of the Centenary Green had been spray painted with graffiti.
“We are working hard to have the damage cleaned up as soon as possible.
“The town council will not tolerate these mindless acts of vandalism, the police have been informed and we will not hesitate to prosecute should a suspect be identified.”
Councillor Steve Marshall-Clarke, leader of Alfreton Town Council, added: “We have put a lot of time and effort to make the Centenary Green a nice place for residents of the town to enjoy.
“It is disappointing to see that someone doesn’t respect the area.”
Centenary Green was officially opened in March 2018.
