Amber Valley Borough Council has earmarked £50,000 of government funding for improvements to Alfreton Indoor Market.
The funding comes from a share of £2.9m awarded to the council from the UK Shared Prosperity Funds (UKSPF).
The UKSPF is for projects to be delivered between 2022 and 2025 that support government priorities around communities and place, supporting businesses people and skills.
Amber Valley Borough Council has drawn up proposals on how it would like to spend its share of the funding – but they are all subject to government approval.
A document due to go before a meeting of the Full Council today (Thursday, September 21), shows that £50,000 has been allocated for “Alfreton market development” in Year 3 of the project.
A spokesperson for Amber Valley Borough Council told The Spirit of Alfreton that the funding will be used to improve the appearance of Alfreton Indoor Market to benefit both customers and traders.
The details of the project are yet to be decided on and the government has to approve Amber Valley Borough Council’s plan for spending the UKSPF before any work can go ahead.
Other spending proposals include shop front improvement and a community fund.
