Alfreton’s Loaves and Fishes Pantry Shop is a new initiative providing essential items to those in need for just £1 a bag.
The pantry, based at Alfreton Christian Centre in Hall Street, opened at the beginning of December and is open weekly on Thursdays between 10am and 12pm.
Members of the pantry shop can buy a bag featuring 10 essential items – such as pasta, soup and hygiene products – for £1.
A couple visiting the pantry might be able to buy 20 items for £2 and a family of three 30 items for £3, and so on.
The Loaves and Fishes Pantry Shop is run by Alfreton Churches Together Serving – a coalition of local churches – to try to help those most in need after the pandemic and during the cost of living crisis.
Money raised by the pantry shop is used to buy some items but it relies heavily on donations from the public and is in need of a number of items, including nappies, cooking sauces, soup and long life milk.
Donations can be left at Alfreton Christian Centre during pantry opening times or on Wednesdays between 2pm and 4pm.
They can also be taken to the Pamper Hut, on Mansfield Road.
If you would like more information about the pantry, call Danielle on 07774040897.
