A charity that runs singing therapy sessions in various locations across Leicestershire is set to start a new group in Alfreton.
Without Walls will bring The Singing Café to Alfreton Library next month – the first group to take place outside of Leicestershire.
The Singing Café was founded in October 2013 with the aim of providing singing therapy to people with dementia, Alzheimer’s and other conditions.
Catherine Henderson, from The Singing Café, explained: “When you’re singing your brain is working – that’s why it’s good for people with memory issues, dementia – but also because of the types of songs we’re singing. They’re upbeat. It’s very good for our emotions.
“Singing is very, very good for you.”
Each ‘café’ starts with refreshments before the singing gets underway, with lyrics displayed on a large screen for everyone to see.
The Singing Café will launch at Alfreton Library, in Severn Square, on Wednesday, June 15.
Sessions will take place weekly between 1.30pm and 2.30pm.
Organisers suggest a voluntary donation of £3 to take part in the sessions.
